There were smiles all around on a windy morning when Joseph Smith, Community Education Team Lead, came by the Choices In Community Living office to deliver a $10,000 check to Donny Rice and Choices’ Executive Director Tom Weaver. The grant funds have been used to assist with the purchase of an accessible van for Donny and others. He shared his appreciation with Joseph and thanked him for everyone at Choices for supporting transportation. He called the new van a “dream” and just a thrill to ride in, especially in comparison to the one it replaced. “It spent more time in the shop for repair than it did on the road,” he noted of the old van.
Choices has a $100,000 goal to provide new and/or replacement vans. According to Tom, the CareSource Foundation grant is going a long way in helping meet that goal. Choices has a 40+ van fleet to meet the transportation needs of the people we serve.
The CareSource Foundation funds innovative, long-term approaches to positively impact critical health issues. They coordinate opportunities for community outreach, medical expertise, community partnerships and volunteerism.
